Richard Steiff designed the very first jointed Teddy bear in 1902, a child’s toy bear gifted with movement, a bear that would take the world by storm. Henceforth Richard devoted his entire life to creativity and innovative design and found constant inspiration within the animal kingdom, which he studied in great depth. Nearly 120 years on Margarete Steiff GmbH continues to strive for excellence in style and imagination within the design of their Teddy bears of today. In 2018 Steiff proudly presented the first in a series of bear cubs that pay tribute to the providers of their inspiration, yet unfold a brand new fresh design. The wondrous dweller of the lush high altitude forests clothing the slopes of the Andes Mountains, the only living bear species native to South America, the Spectacled Bear is the closest living kin of the short-faced bears of the Middle Pleistocene to Late Pleistocene age. They are one of the most endangered bear species in the world; the most endangered being the Giant Panda Bear which is their closest living relative today. In 2019 Steiff are proud to offer the second cub in this exciting series. The Grizzly bear is one of the world’s most beautiful and impressive creatures. Formidable in size, these giants are gentle and peaceful. Grizzly bears earned their name, not by their nature, but due to their incredible dense fur that has white-tipped hair giving a grizzled appearance. This little dearie cub totally embodies the striking markings of his incentive yet embraces individuality. The finest mohair has been used to capture the bear’s thick grizzled coat and the attention to detail is that synonymous with Steiff. A heavenly delectable cub he is indeed. limited edition of 1000 pieces made of the finest mohair CAUTION! This product is not a toy and is intended for adult collectors only. Mrs Brown bent down. “You’re a very small bear,” she said. “I’m a very rare sort of bear,” he replied importantly. “There aren’t many of us left where I come from.” “And where is that?” asked Mrs Brown. “Darkest Peru. Michael Bond based Paddington bear on a lonely Teddy bear he noticed on a shelf in a London store on Christmas Eve 1956, which he bought as a present for his wife. The bear inspired Bond to write a story; A Bear Called Paddington - first published on 13 October 1958. Little could he have known then how many people from around the world would come to know, love and adore his small bear from darkest Peru. "Paddington is eternally optimistic and always comes back for more, no matter how many times his hopes are dashed," "It's simply the joy of a little bear who is an outsider getting into scrapes and mishaps - always with the best of intentions - and coming out on top every time." Michael Bond To celebrate the marmalade-loving BAFT nominated bear’s 60th anniversary Steiff are honoured and thrilled to offer two winning designs. Our first Paddington pays homage to Peggy Fortnum, the first illustrator to draw Paddington Bear for Michael Bond’s children’s books. She was commissioned to illustrate the first volume of adventures, A Bear Called Paddington, in black and white line drawings, in 1958, and worked on the next eight Paddington books. Her illustrations made the idea of a bear from Peru arriving at Paddington station with a suitcase and being adopted by an ordinary family seem perfectly reasonable. This special anniversary Paddington comes complete with a specially commissioned 60th anniversary logo. limited edition of 1958 pieces made of the finest mohair CAUTION!
